February 1, 1921 Record-Setting Taxi Driver Carmen Fasanella of Princeton, New Jersey, obtained his cab driver's license at the tender age of 17. Mr. Fasanella would go on to drive his taxi for the next 68 years and 243 days, setting an unofficial record for the longest continuous career for a cabbie. Incidentally, the term "cab" comes from "cabriolet," a single-horse carriage used by coach drivers.

February 21, 1948 NASCAR, Inc.
Six days after its first race was held, NASCAR was officially incorporated as the National Association for Stock Car Racing, with race promoter Bill France as president.
February 25, 1919 Gas Tax Oregon became the first state to impose a tax on gasoline. The funds collected from the one percent tax were used for road construction and maintenance.

Consumers spent $143.2 Million at online retail and travel sites last year, up 22 percent from 2004's $117.2 million. Excluding travel, the total came to $82.3 million, marking a 24 percent jump from 2004. A retail shopping spree from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31 before the holidays accounted for $19.6 million of that total, reflecting a 25 percent increase from the same time last year.
